Stress on-the-job is manifest across a spectrum from distress (distraught) to eustress (euphoria). To encourage eustress, find your stress "sweet spot.” This according to Paula Davis-Laack of the Stress & Resilience Institute. We all need some stress in our lives because it motivates us, but too much stress – either distress and eustress – contributes to burnout. The "sweet spot” is where you feel you get the benefits of eustress without the havoc of distress. This sweet spot differs for each of us and is couched in job demands, job resources, and our recovery time. Take care of yourself by guarding your boundaries. Once you find that sweet spot, try to stay in it.
