How does a job applicant get past the algorithm?
8/5/2018
According to V. McLean of CITY CV, a prospective employer’s Applicant-Tracking System may reject upwards of 75% of submitted résumés based on an algorithm.  The algorithm hunts for keywords that match the employer’s criteria.  The first step is to study the language used in the job advertisement and on the employer’s website.  For example, if the initials PM are used for Project Management, make sure that PM appears in your job application.

As a second step, many employers use a video-interview service.  During this remote interview, potential candidates are quizzed while an artificial-intelligence program analyzes facial expressions (maintaining eye contact with the camera), language patterns (sounding confident), and general behavior (sitting or standing upright, being alert, and being engaged).

After that, the applicant may have contact with a human.
