Phubbing – short for "phone snubbing” – is the act of sub-intentionally being distracted by one’s phone while talking to someone person-to-person. According to Neal Goodman of Global Dynamics, it is a form of micro-aggression at work. It is another expression of a deep-seated bias against another person. Other examples of phubbing during a conversation are: > Checking the phone incessantly > Checking the phone every time it "sounds” > Reading or sending emails and text messages > Watching videos > Chuckling to oneself upon seeing something humerus > And other forms of bad manners
The cumulative impact of micro-aggressions on people who already feel ignored, disrespected, and/or powerless can be substantial. Micro-aggressions accumulate: Mountains are molehills piled on top of each other. Micro-aggressions lead to lower levels of job performance and thus job satisfaction.
