What is an IRC?
1/7/2018
An IRC is an Industry-Recognized Credential.  An IRC consists of being deemed competent in a specific occupational skill by an industry-based agency.  Examples include:
> Commercial Drivers License by each state’s respective motor vehicle department
> Microsoft Office by Microsoft, Inc.
> C++ Computer Programming by the C++ Institute
> IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) Airplane Pilot’s License by the Federal Aviation Administration
> Master Electrician by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers

Competence is measured by successfully performing pre-determined criteria of proficiency.  For an employer, the benefits are great.  Hire a new employee holding an IRC in a desired skill means that employee becomes productive almost immediately.

The Soft Technical Skills Institute (STSI) is the external credentialing agency for soft skills.  With critical input from an industry-based board of review, STSI establishes proficiency standards for credentialing; and administers a set of assessments including a Comprehensive Performance Examination for each Soft Technical Skill.  Content of credentialing criteria for each includes an overview of the skill, measurable learning objectives, eQuizs, and retired comprehensive performance examinations.
