What are the five rules for successful microlearning?
10/22/2017
Microlearning is "bite-sized” learning.  It is mastering a specific job skill need now.  In his September 13, 2017 article from ATD on 5 Rules of Successful Microlearning, Alex Khurgin outlines the following:
1.  Align microlearning around moments of need. – The need to know now is a positive motivator.
2.  Design for micro–behaviors. – Focus on what employees do, not on what they know.
3.  Start microlearning experiences with an emotional hook. – Start with a story.
4.  End microlearning experiences with a call-to-action. – Employees need to see concrete results in order to retain a new skill.
5.  Surround live events with microlearning. – Best if done before, during, and after the live event.
The net effect is that employees get in the habit of continuous learning which will determine which organizations succeed and which get rolled over as digital transformation continues to reshape the world of work.
Microlearning occurs while on the job.  To that end, the Lesson-Up lesson on Learning on the Job gives more detail.
