Make it experiential. Break with the traditional lecture in a conference room. Few remember. Even fewer enact the desired procedures. This according to K. Scrunchfield of McCrea Coaching and summarized on July 10, 2017.
We all agree, training is necessary to establish expectations and instill company culture. But how you get there is the issue.
Experiential learning is a process in which employees practice a new tasks in real-world environment, and then reflect on their performance. The ultimate experiential team-building training requires three steps. 1. Develop and establish the desired procedural steps with the team. 2. Join the workers as they practice the procedure and video record the process.. 3. Debrief with the team as they review and react to the video recording. They will point out mistakes, changes in the procedure, and improvements in efficiency, effectiveness, and safety.
